Even if the drummer's mom was in an accident. Even if the lead guitar player is in jail. Even if you are dead - you emerge from Hell, play the gig, then go back to hell. In show business, the show must go on. If for some reason you do cancel a show, it is your job to find a competent replacement band willing to perform the show for the same or less money. The person who booked you is under no obligation to accept the replacement band, but it is your job to hook it up. If you don't agree with that and understand that, you are not a professional. If you hire a band to play a gig, you must pay them if they show up. Even if there's a hurricane. Even if there is an earthquake. If your club is open on that date, and the band shows up, you have to pay them. If you do for some reason cancel a band, they are entitled to at least a weeks notice to line up another gig. Those are the rules. If you don't do it that way, you're an amateur. No matter who you are you don't cancel a gig with 24 (or even 48) hours notice. If you do, you owe the other party the full cost.
